Special Events artWorks 2010 The Alcott Center and LA Contemporary present “The Many Faces of Art” The This year’s event, “The Many Faces of Art,” will be held
on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the prestigious LA Contemporary, a venue which
has been host to numerous well-known artists’ exhibits. Located in the heart of LA’s exciting La
Cienega art district, the evening, which begins with an exclusive VIP Champagne
Reception, promises to be a fun-filled celebration of art with an auction,
delicious food, good wine and interesting guests. Originally conceived as an event to showcase the
accomplishments of Alcott Center’s clients who participate in the “Visiting Artist Project,” artWorks has grown into an
evening which not only celebrates the talents of Alcott clients but also
provides an opportunity to view important works of a select group of renowned
Californian artists. These works will be available at the
auction. The
Visiting Artists Project is a powerful educational and wellness program
guided by several celebrated local artists who mentor clients in the arts.
Work is done in a variety of media including oil, acrylic, watercolor
and cut paper. We thank all of those supporting artists who have
contributed their time and talent to this project. Artists include such well-known names as
Daniel Alonzo, Les Biller, Huguette Caland, Laddie John Dill, Linda Jacobson,
Muromasa Kudo, Brett Livingstone Strong, Jeffrey Manpearl and Suzye Ogawa. The Project
demonstrates that there is no disability in art. The power of creative arts
fosters the strengths and talents in our clients who often feel hopeless and
outside society. It builds a community of artists by giving them a
powerful sense of ability and accomplishment. With the
recent cuts in State funding, this event has taken on even greater importance
in order to service those in our community who suffer from schizophrenia,
bipolar disorder and chronic depression.
Funds raised at this event will benefit residential programs, such as
the Graduate House, which provides transitional/permanent housing and
encourages Alcott residents to live as independently as possible and lead
more meaningful lives. We hope you will join us! When:
